<p id="1"><strong>Raipur: </strong>For a couple from a small Chhattisgarh town, saving their 13-month-old son diagnosed with brain cancer is a matter of &ldquo;how&rdquo;, not &ldquo;if &rdquo;. They sold off whatever little they owned and are living on a footpath outside AIIMS-Raipur, where Harsh is getting chemotherapy, reports <strong>Partha Behera</strong>.</p>
<p id="2">Balak Das Dahare, 31, and Rohini Dahare in Kawardha town, around 120km from Raipur, sensed there&rsquo;s something amiss with Harsh within weeks of his birth in October last year. They checked with a doctor and a CT scan told them the infant, then five months old, has brain cancer. &ldquo;We trembled&hellip;we are very poor people. How would we treat our baby?&rdquo; said Balak, a daily-wage labourer.</p>
<p id="3">Someone told them that AIIMS can save their baby. The couple didn&rsquo;t think twice. &ldquo;We sold our hut and whatever we owned and moved to Raipur,&rdquo; the father said. &ldquo;The three of us spent months under a tarpaulin outside AIIMS-Raipur Gate No. 1.&rdquo;</p>
<p>They decided to stay close to AIIMS even if that meant roughing it on the footpath. They found a spot with a tin shed and thus began their fight to save Harsh. Balak started selling tea from a pushcart outside the hospital and the earnings took care of their food and, most importantly, the oxygen Harsh needs to breathe.</p>

<p>The family&rsquo;s struggle would have gone unnoticed had it not been for a video uploaded on social media that went viral on Monday. The clip shows Harsh in a hammock made of a sari outside the main gates of AIIMS, a nose tube rigged to a portable oxygen dispenser helping him breathe, and Rohini making sure the system is running fine.</p>
