Sisodia said at a press conference that he had now sent a proposal through chief minister Arvind Kejriwal to lieutenant governor VK Saxena for his approval to continue the initiative, which was launched in December 2021 to help people lead a healthy life.
"BJP is trying pressure tactics on the officials of the Delhi government to get the beneficial and flagship initiatives of the Kejriwal government scrapped from November 1. Officials are being threatened by BJP functionaries in the name of suspension if they do not agree to their baseless demands. The new initiative under their target is the Delhi government's Dilli Ki Yogshala," Sisodia claimed.
"We are committed to provide a healthy lifestyle to every citizen of Delhi; we will not let anyone stop Dilli Ki Yogshala.&nbsp;CM Arvind Kejriwal has given his approval to continue the programme. The file is now pending at the LG's end," he said, adding that even the Prime Minister is fond of yoga and promotes it across the country. He hoped that the LG would allow the government to continue it.
BJP, however, alleged that Sisodia was in a habit of "blaming" it and the Centre for the failures of the Delhi government. "The truth is that the Kejriwal government did not obtain the clearance of the competent authority before launching the scheme. It has now sent the file to the LG and hopefully, it will be cleared soon," Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor said.
"The scheme was not promoted seriously by the Kejriwal government, due to which only 17,000 people take yoga classes in a city of two crores. Had this scheme been seriously promoted in Delhi, at least 25 lakh people would have been attending the classes," he added. On Tuesday, Sisodia alleged&nbsp;that the secretary of the training and technical education department had "forcibly tried" to discontinue the programme and "sabotage" the government efforts to provide free yoga to Delhiites. He gave 24 hours to the secretary to explain on what basis she had said in a meeting of the board of governors of Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research University, which train the yoga instructors, that the programme would be discontinued, and why the decision was taken without any discussion with the minister in-charge.
Sisodia said on Wednesday that the secretary must have sent the reply and officials would be looking into it.
According to the government, Dilli Ki Yogshala is organised at 590 locations across the city benefitting more than 17,000 people. Sisodia said 11,000 of them had been suffering from ailments associated with long Covid while 2,000 had very serious diseases after Covid-19, and the programme had helped them heal gradually.
