Meteorological conditions helped Delhi escape the polluting consequences of the widespread use of banned firecrackers on Diwali, with the city recording its cleanest post-Diwali day since the CPCB started measuring the capital's AQI in 2015.
Delhi's 24-hour AQI was 303 on Tuesday, in 'very poor'&nbsp;zone, but slightly better than the previous day's reading of 312. In terms of AQI, this was a 30% reduction compared to the post-Diwali day of 2021.
Experts attributed the improvement to weather conditions, particularly the effect of Cyclone Sitrang that crossed Bangladesh on Monday&nbsp;and warmer temperatures on account of Diwali coming relatively early this year.

A change in the direction of Cyclone Sitrang over 1,000km away played a big role clearing Diwali pollution over DelhiNCR, and indeed much of north India, reports Amit Bhattacharya. After recurving over Bay of Bengal, the cyclone moved towards Bangladesh, pulling winds and moisture in that direction, which helped ventilation and dispersal of pollutants.
