The thrill of holding their "little miracle” has moved even the toughest of men to joyful tears. The journey that ensues will have sleepless nights, panic visits to the doctor, joys of the baby’s firsts (smile, walking, talking, etc..), and the eternal question of whether I am doing a good job of being a dad. Unfortunately, there is no manual that accompanies this role. As guys, we assume we will learn the job on the go, but it can sometimes be difficult to wing it. As a father of two sons with the eldest one being 15 years old, have learned a few tricks on what works and what doesn’t. There are many parenting books, blogs, and podcasts that have banked on to help me over these years.
I will highlight some tips that have gathered in this article in hopes that they will help you become an even better dad than you already are.
1 Share responsibilities:
The world is changing and the dichotomy of roles between a husband and wife is blurring by the day. The traditional split of mom at home and dad at work rarely exists in the present day. Get involved in looking after your baby from day one. Learn to change diapers, give baths, get them dressed, and most importantly, tuck them in at night. This will earn respect from your spouse and improve your relationship.
