With the ever-improving cameras on smartphones, food photography has emerged as a popular and accessible way to celebrate the diverse flavours and textures that Indian cuisine offers. This article delves into the tips and tricks for capturing culinary delights on your smartphone, ensuring that every plate becomes a work of art.
1. Mastering lighting
In Indian cuisine, the play of light and shadow can enhance the visual appeal of a dish. Natural light is your best friend when it comes to food photography. Consider shooting near a window or outdoors to make the most of daylight. Avoid harsh overhead lights that can cast unflattering shadows. Soft, diffused light brings out the details and colours of the food, making it look more appetizing.
2. Setting the stage
Choose a background that complements the colours of the dish. Earthy tones or vibrant traditional fabrics can provide a visually pleasing backdrop for Indian cuisine. Experiment with different props, such as traditional utensils, spices, or fresh herbs, to add depth and context to your photographs.
3. Focus on composition
Utilise the rule of thirds to create a balanced composition. Place the main dish off-centre for a more dynamic and visually appealing shot. Capture close-ups of key ingredients or intricate details to highlight the craftsmanship and flavours that go into Indian dishes.
4. Angle matters
Play with angles to find the most flattering perspective for each dish. For flatbreads and thalis, shooting from above can showcase the variety on the plate, while capturing curries from a lower angle emphasises their richness. Experiment with tilting your phone to capture unique shots that bring out the textures and layers of the food.
5. Utilise Burst Mode
