While competitive rowing might seem to be a summer pursuit, there are, in fact, regattas all year round, so visit the British Rowing website (www.britishrowing.org) to see what’s coming up in your area. However, the most famous event is the Henley Royal Regatta, which runs from 2-7 July and combines over 300 races with a vibrant social scene, entertainment and food and drink. At the other end of the scale are more low-key events where you should have no problem finding a good position at the start or finish line.
