Not being a born-and-bred Capetonian, I was told by the locals that one of the bucket-list things to do in Cape Town was the Argus (now the Cape Town Cycle Tour). They explained that it had the most amount of gees you could find.
I’d bought a niche cycling business, and to publicise it I needed an accolade Joe Public could associate with. And so, in 2012 and 2014, I rode the ‘Argus’ on a unicycle – not the first unicyclist to do so, but the first and so far the only woman.
Unicycling has made leaps and bounds in the last 25 to 30 years. It’s no longer thought of as only a ‘circus’ art; currently, it lives in the world of adventure and extreme sport.
