Punjab Kings will once again need to start from scratch. This is a side that often goes for a complete overhaul during the Indian Premier League auctions and then tries to build again, only for them to repeat the process. An underperforming side in the cash-rich league, Punjab went on to retain just two players ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah last month. Prabhsimran Singh and Shashank Singh were the two players retained. At the auction, they used the RTM card for star pacer Arshdeep Singh. They also signed back an utility player in Harpreet Brar. Barring these four players, PBKS have a new look altogether.
The major attraction during the auction for PBKS was the capture of Shreyas Iyer. Punjab went all out for the IPL title-winning captain of 2024. A sum of Rs. 26.75 crore was spent on the Indian batter, who was with Kolkata Knight Riders. IPL’s highest wicket-taker and the best T20 performer with the ball among Indian bowlers – Yuzvendra Chahal – was a solid buy for Rs. 18 crore. PBKS also spent a huge chunk of money on Aussie all-rounder Marcus Stoinis and South African pacer Marco Jansen. Glenn Maxwell, Josh Inglis, and Azmatullah Omarzai were added to the roster as well. PBKS have a big squad with plenty of options in the foreign ranks. With some interesting names among Indians, the franchise will be aiming to hit the right chords under new head coach Ricky Ponting.
