Geoff Thomas might be a name better known in the world of professional football but, since his retirement, the ex-England international and Crystal Palace captain has been blazing a trail in endurance cycling circles with his awareness-raising and fund-raising ‘The Tour 21’ series, tracing the entire route of the Tour de France each year. A blood cancer diagnosis – and subsequent remission against very slim odds – prompted Thomas’s desire to give something back to the medical professionals who helped him and to patients fighting their own battle against leukaemia.
To pay homage to his multi-million-pound fund-raising efforts, British bike brand Ribble – which has supported Geoff and his team for many years – has launched a bike fit for the Tour, with proceeds from its sale going to the Cure Leukaemia charity.
