THE USUAL SUSPECTS

Every golf club is different, but you’re almost guaranteed to find these ten types of golfer on the course, at the range or in the clubhouse...

THE USUAL SUSPECTS

ll golf clubs are obviously unique in a one-of-a-kind way, but you’ll also find a lot of similarities in every clubhouse you set foot in: discussions about slow play; debates around the World Handicap System; and opinions flying back and forth around course conditioning, the best new golf clubs and the Rules.

Refreshingly, you’ll also find the same types of character in every golf club you visit. Here, we introduce the ten you’re almost certain to find...

THE GOOD GUY

The Good Guy is someone everyone knows and enjoys playing with. They’re always good for a round (golf and drinks), rarely take golf too seriously, and are always interested in how you’re playing and what you’re up to. “Played with John the other day.” “John who?” “You know, John Smith.” “Smiffy? Salt of the earth, that guy.”

THE GRAFTER

The Grafter deserves every bit of success that comes his or her way. The practice range is their second home and every Saturday, you’ll see them warming up in the short-game area an hour before their tee-time. Without fail. Their bag has more training aids in it than clubs; they’re never shy to ask the pro for a lesson; and they’ll not only hit balls before they play, but after, too.

Is it Time for the Presidents Cup to Be Scrapped? - The next instalment of the USA v Internationals match takes place in Canada at the end of September. But should the one-sided affair continue?

The next instalment of the USA v Internationals match takes place in Canada at the end of September. But should the one-sided affair continue? Why would anyone even suggest such a drastic course of action? It may sound harsh, but since the inaugural event in 1994, the International team has managed just one victory and one tie while the American team has won 12 times, including nine straight from 2005. It is 26 years since the International team's solitary success in 1998 at Royal Melbourne under the captaincy of the late Peter Thomson.
