“I hope they do,” says the 32-year-old wing-back, who will lead Plymouth out against Bolton for this afternoon’s Papa Johns Trophy final. “But if they don’t, I’ll be sure to remind them every single day!

“It’s nice because they’re getting to the age now that they can come to the games at Home Park and really enjoy the day.

“We’ve tried to explain to them what’s happening this weekend, where we’re going and how they’ll get to sit in a big stadium.

“I don’t think they’ll quite realise until they get there but they know I play football, they’ve seen me on TV and I’m hoping that in years to come they’ll remember. If not, we’ll have photos to look back on and show them.

“ Whatever happens, it’ll be an incredibly proud moment for me to play in front of my kids and have all the family watching.”

Archie and Louie certainly won’t recall Edwards’ previous afternoon beneath the arch when, as a 22-year-old, he helped Yeovil beat Brentford in the League One playoff final to clinch an historic promotion to the Championship. It was - and remains - a stunning achievement for a club that has spent the vast majority of its existence outside the EFL.

“It’s hard to believe that was ten years ago,” says Edwards, a product of the Bristol City academy who subsequently played for Colchester and Walsall before joining the Pilgrims in 2019.

“But I remember it clearly. The boiling hot weather. The nerves and tension. At the end of a long season when you’ve worked so hard to get where you want, there’s so much riding on that one play-off game.
