“Playing against the defending champions was always going to be a tough ask, however, I thought the girls fronted up very well,” said Ward, who this week signed a two-year contract extension at Bristol. “There was a defensive set towards the end which underlined our resilience as a team, and I’m so proud of how we performed.”
Bears dominated the early first quarter, with props Sarah Bern and Hannah Botterman bossing the forward battle to set the platform for Courtney Keight and Hollie Aitchison to run in two quickfire tries.
Keight crossed in the corner on seven minutes on the back of a slick backline move involving Phoebe Murray and Holly Aitchison.
