BACKGROUND Swedish hotel operator Scandic has 13 hotels in Copenhagen. Scandic Spectrum is a new property that opened in 2022, and was purpose-built in a former harbour industrial area called Kalvebod Brygge (which is also the street name/address of the hotel).
WHERE IS IT? Just one road back from what looks like a river but is actually an estuary leading out to the sea. It is a ten-minute walk to Copenhagen Central Station, and just under six miles to Copenhagen Airport - we took a Metro train then a bus, which stopped just behind the hotel.
WHAT'S IT LIKE? The hotel is one of several glass-covered buildings in the area, but helpfully has the red Scandic sign on the top of its facade. We arrived too early for check-in, but received a friendly welcome and were told we could store our luggage downstairs in the automated lockers. These took a credit card payment and allowed us to immediately get on with our day.
The hotel was full while we were there - with over 1,000 guests including families on holiday, flight crew, conference guests and business travellers, but there was never a sense that the staff were overwhelmed. There were few queues at reception, which was impressive given the sheer number of people in the hotel - and we only had short waits for the lifts in the mornings, so the hotel has been well-designed.
