FASHION DESIGNER Rimzim Dadu has been making steady strides. It has been over 15 years since she launched her eponymous label, which now includes an exclusive menswear store that opened recently in New Delhi. Dadu has been lauded for her unconventional approach to design, featuring textile manipulation techniques that transform fabrics into sculptural forms. Her new resort wear collection, DISCO, features pieces that are an ode to the carefree disco age. We chat with the couturier about what inspires her design aesthetic, favourite travel destinations, and more. Edited excerpts from the conversation:
You recently launched your flagship menswear store in New Delhi. Tell us about the inspiration behind this and how it's catering to the new-age consumer?
As a brand, we've always been committed to pushing boundaries. This was also the inspiration behind launching our exclusive menswear flagship store at DLF Emporio. The idea was to merge our rich heritage of craftsmanship with the marvels of technology. The store offers signature pieces that represent the brand's experimental textiles, translated as contemporary clothing for men. It caters to the consumer who appreciates luxury, quality, and innovation with the right blend of aesthetics and approachable design.
Most of what we have seen with Indian menswear is very conformist. How are you challenging the norms with your collections?
