Popular for their delectable variety of food items and elaborate decor aesthetics, Aggarwal weddings are a sight to behold and an extravaganza on its own. Not just a social gathering, their wedding ceremonies are cladded with age-old customs and rituals. To shed some light on the same, Wedding Affair brings to you Sampoorn Aggarwal Vivah.
PRE-WEDDING RITUALS
ROKNA
Named after the Hindi word rokna which means 'to stop', this ceremony symbolises that the search by the families for the perfect bride or groom has finally ended. The marriage is fixed once the astrological charts of the bride and groom are matched and an auspicious date for the wedding is finalised.
MUDHA TEEKA
The family astrologer decides an auspicious day to perform the ceremony. It usually takes place one or two days before the wedding. A small puja is performed where the male members of the bride's family apply tilak or teeka on the groom's forehead. This ritual is symbolic of love and respect towards the groom. The bride and groom are showered with gifts and are fed sweets for marital bliss and good luck.
GODH BHARAI
Following the teeka ceremony where the rituals are performed by the bride's family for the groom, the godh bharai ceremony is performed by the groom's sister. She presents gifts to the bride like jewellery, dolls, clothes and sweets and places them on the bride's jholi (lap). The special significance behind presenting the doll or a toy to the bride is to pray that she may bear many children in her journey of married life.
