‘Shōgun’, a historical drama series based on a 1975 novel of the same name, made history at this year’s Emmy by bagging 18 awards out of 25 nominations. Along with becoming the first Japanese language series to win an award for the Outstanding Drama Series, it set a new record as the most-awarded single season of television in Emmy history. The lead actors of the drama, Anna Sawai and Hiroyuki Sanada, further elevated the evening’s celebration by winning the titles of the Best Actress and Best Actor in a drama series. It was an emotional moment for both actors who became the first-ever Japanese actors to win in respective categories.
