14 easy tips to gorgeous locks all season long
Summer hair that wows!

The long, warm days of summer make it fun to spend time poolside, take leisurely walks around the neighborhood and even dig around in the garden. But while the sunny season boosts our mood, its heat, humidity and UV rays can also leave our hair looking like a hot mess.

Instead of letting oily roots, dull color, frizz and flatness dampen your spirits, we polled hair care pros for the easy, affordable ways to prevent (and fix!) summer’s biggest strand arghs. From genius new ways to use conditioner to shampoos made with hair woe–targeted ingredients, read on for the savvy solutions to ensure you’re out and about with confidence

Banish oily roots

Freshly washed hair feels great on a warm summer day, but it can go from gorgeous to greasy within minutes of stepping outside, as the sun’s heat opens pores on the scalp, sending oil production into overdrive.
PREVENT IT: Add 2 to 3 drops of tea tree oil to a palmful of your shampoo, then shampoo hair as usual and let the lather sit while you sing the alphabet, says Krysta Biancone, a hairstylist in Santa Barbara. “That’s enough time for tea tree oil to absorb into the scalp so it can regulate oil production for grease-free roots.”
FIX IT: Spritz on a dry shampoo made with charcoal, like Hask Purifying Dry Shampoo (Target.com), which acts as a magnet to whisk away excess oil on the scalp.

Tame frizz
