Bring Joy Into Your Life

Let Your Spirit Soar

Music has the ability to boost our mood and re-awaken memories and has a significant and lasting effect on our emotions. A team of French researchers found that when we listen to our favourite music, the areas of the brain which handle emotion and process sound work together to create a surge in "feel good" dopamine levels. Some pieces of music are so powerful they literally give us "goosebumps". Brain imaging techniques have found that Barber's Adagio for Strings (used to great effect in the film Platoon) is a prime example of this.

Talk To People

Strong connections with other people was most directly correlated to overall happiness, better health and greater contentment, found a Harvard study. And separate research in the BMJ found that not only are we more likely to be happy if a friend is happy, but our happiness can influence our friends. Even seemingly trivial encounters with a dog walker or customer assistant can boost your mood, found a report in Social Psychological and Personality Science. Be open to talking to people - whether that's joining a club or making small talk with the barista waiting for your latte.
