Back in the heat of summer, I agreed to "meet and greet" a relative's son and his friends off the Isle of Wight ferry, deposit them in the relative's friend's (Bob's) caravan, and "look out for them".

This seemed on the surface to be an easy job these weren't kids, but twenty-year-olds embarking on a plan to do nothing but holiday for a year. Or so I thought - only the "do nothing for a year" bit was literally true. Holidaying, or anything else actually, seemed totally alien to them.

Having settled them into their caravan, I hastily departed, confident I'd hear nothing more all week. Ten minutes later, my phone rang.
