Osteoporosis - thinning of the bones-is sometimes called the "silent pandemic".

Pandemic because it's so common about 1 in 3 women over 50 will break a bone as a result and silent because you can lose bone without knowing it until you take a tumble or develop pain. If your bones become less solid, they're more prone to breakage. So it's important to take steps to reduce your risk. It's never too early to start.

We all know that our skin changes over time-cells from the surface constantly rub off and get replaced-but did you know that a similar process applies to your bones? Bone may be hard, but it isn't like rock. It's a living tissue, made up of a tough framework strengthened by hard, solid minerals. Cells in your bones constantly reabsorb bone, replacing and moulding it.
