It was supposed to be the dream deal between the young royals starting a fresh life away from the confines of the palace and the giant streaming platform with more than 220 subscribers around the world.
But the $150 million agreement between Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, and Netfl ix looks like it could be turning sour, thanks to fears that both the couple and the company are about to make the royal family very, very angry.
The docuseries the Sussexes have been making was due to screen in December, but it has been pushed back to next year because of worries on both sides that it’s going to cause ructions among the royals.
But the two parties have different reasons for wanting the fl y-on-the-wall show to be held back. Harry and Meghan apparently began lobbying for the show, made in conjunction with their production company Archewell, to be delayed while they made changes following the death of the Queen on September 8.
The pair were said to be concerned about some of the content, including comments made about Harry’s father Charles and stepmother Camilla. An insider says that now Charles is King, anything negative will be seen not just as an attack on a parent, but on the monarchy.
Harry’s relationship with his father has seriously deteriorated since he and Meghan left their senior royal roles in 2020, and crumbled even further following their interview with Oprah Winfrey last year, in which he said his father had cut off his money and stopped taking his calls.
