Four years after leaving his role as a senior working royal, Prince Harry has offered to return to the UK to help his family while his father, the King, is undergoing cancer treatment.
The California-based royal has told friends he would be prepared go back to his home country to carry out official duties while his dad is out of action.
“Harry is ready and willing to help, and genuinely believes it would work well for both parties,” says a source close to Harry.
“In his view, it wouldn’t be dissimilar from the hybrid working model he and his wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex proposed back in 2020, when they stepped back as working royals. With the King’s illness, there’s perhaps more of a reason for those options to be considered.”
But royal experts say there’s no way Harry, 39, or Meghan, 42, would be welcomed back to the royal fold. Even though the family is currently “short-staffed” due to both the King, 75, and the Princess of Wales, 42, being laid up with health issues, Prince William doesn’t want the Sussexes back because he feels they can’t be trusted, says a source.
He’s still angry about claims made in Harry’s book Spare and the Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan, along with the bombshells dropped in the Oprah Winfrey interview.
“It’s absolutely and categorically clear that William would not allow Harry to return,” says the palace insider. “There’s zero percent chance Harry is coming back in any capacity.”
