After all of the upheaval of 2022, 2023 will be a year of adjustments for the royal family. With a new monarch for the first time in 70 years, this year is likely to be all about getting accustomed to the new regime. Here’s what 2023 could have in store for senior royals.
King and Queen Consort
Charles III hit the ground running after becoming king in September following the death of his mother, the Queen. He was well-prepared for his new position and slipped into the role pretty seamlessly, even though he is clearly still grieving his beloved Mummy.
In 2023, he and his wife Camilla, Queen Consort will continue to make their new roles their own, with the coronation due to be the major event of the year for them. To be held at Westminster Abbey on May 6 (grandson Archie’s fourth birthday), the ceremony will observe many of the long-held traditions associated with coronations that date back centuries, but Buckingham Palace says it will also “reflect the monarch’s role today and look toward the future”.
