1 Eat "Five-a-day" (at least)
A good daily intake of a variety of different vegetables will help to keep your gut microbiome healthy. If the trillions of different bacteria in your gut are happy, they produce chemicals (called "postbiotics"), which scientists are increasingly discovering can be very beneficial for many aspects of mental and physical health. For instance, some bacteria produce anti-inflammatory chemical messengers called cytokines which help to reduce inflammation around the body and promote a good immune response.
2 Think R.I.C.E
To ease the swelling and bruising after injuring muscles or joints, doctors recommend the R.I.C.E protocol:
R: rest - immobilisation prevents further injury and gives the body time to recover
I: ice-cold reduces pain by numbing the affected area
