10 MAKE-UP BAG UPDATES

1 Have a proper clear-out

Did you know that make-up has a use-by date? On the back of every product you'll find a logo of a little pot with a number in it, which indicates the recommended length of time (usually six or 12 months) it will last once opened. If you can't remember buying the product, it's probably time for it to go.

2 Clean your brushes

Be honest, when was the last time you cleaned your make-up brushes? Left-over make-up, sebum and dead skin cells can promote bacteria, so give them a proper clean once a week, using Beauty Hygiene Plus Deep Cleanse Sponge & Brush Wash, £5, Boots.

3 Try two-in-one multitaskers

If the zip of your make-up bag is struggling to make its way across the tracks, it's time to consider some multitasking products. Rose Inc Blush Divine Radiant Lip & Cheek Colour, £23, sephora.co.uk, creates a rosy glow on both lips and cheeks, while Soap & Glory Lid Stuff Eyeshadow Stick in Coco Crush & Golden Crush, £7.99, Boots, is a two-in-one with a shade for day and a shade for night.

4 Invest in new tools
