Laura Mountford shares her tips and tricks to make wash days easy and affordable
Energy-saving SWAPS

Small changes to your cleaning and laundry set-up can make a big difference to your energy bills and your bank balance. Here, Laura Mountford – laundry’s answer to Mrs Hinch – shares her top tips for making the most of each wash load.

Wash less often

The simplest way to reduce energy usage is to wash less frequently and only wash clothes when they actually need it. I used to wash everything after just one wear, which seems silly to me now, especially if it had only been worn for a few hours and wasn’t even dirty! Most items just need hanging and airing for a freshen-up and can then be re-worn – they only really need washing after a few wears. This will not only save you money on your energy bills and reduce the amount of laundry product you use, but it will also help to prolong the life of your clothes.
