A weekend in Estonia's fairy-tale capital is the perfect autumn getaway

Fall for TALLINN

Why go?

One of the best-preserved medieval cities in Northern Europe, Tallinn sits on the north coast of Estonia, by the Baltic Sea. It's stunningly beautiful, there's lots to see and do, and flights there are super cheap in late autumn. Here are the best ways to enjoy it....

Step back in time

Strolling around Tallinn's charming Old Town is a must. Walking through the Viru Gate, two sandstone towers topped with terracotta turrets, you'll be transported to the 14th century.

Streets are lined with pretty, pastel-coloured buildings, and the fortified walls are dotted with lookout towers. Narrow cobbled lanes, lined with shops, bars and restaurants, stretch out in several directions.

On pretty St Catherine's Passage, you'll see halftimbered buildings and a smattering of artisanal workshops - it's been a base for craftspeople for centuries.

Historic buildings

Wander along Pikk Street and enjoy Tallinn's historic architecture. Many of the buildings used to be merchants' houses or guild halls.
