It’s July, the sun is shining (at times!), so what more reason do we need to get outside for our daily dose of exercise? However, it’s sometimes necessary to stay in the shade – away from the energy-sapping strength of the sun – because when it’s hot, it’s harder to maintain what’s called ‘homeostasis’.

This is the term for how the body regulates itself to achieve its normal state of balance while adjusting to changing conditions and temperatures. So, when the sun’s out and the heat is on, the body works hard to help us stay cool and there are things we must do to help it. Be smart and you needn’t let your fitness routine fall by the wayside until autumn.
