I’m going to do it. I could back out at the last minute, but that wouldn’t be fair on him.
I could hear my inner voice saying… He might not come, of course, and then you’d feel a bit stupid. Of course he will!
He sounded really nice when we’d ‘written’ on the internet, and Loren approved. She said it was time I got out and about now her father’s been gone three years.
Yes, but internet dating! There’s that inner voice again… You’re not in your 30s, you know. It’s only youngsters who do these things. They’re more confident these days.
My inner voice is arguing with itself… No, it’s not! And Loren’s supporting me. My own daughter should know about these things.
Now, what shall I wear? I don’t want anything too revealing, but I don’t want to look dowdy. Ah! Think I’ll go for a little black dress.
Oh, yeah. Very exciting. He’ll think you’re still wearing your widow’s weeds!
Hmm, perhaps not. Now, let’s have a look. Ah, this grey top with the tiny sequins and my black velvet trousers. Loren says she likes that outfit.
Oh, come on! Grey and black now. Do you want to be invisible, girl?!
Actually, yes, I do. But I’m not giving in. OK, I’ll swap the grey top for that new chiffon-style olive green one that has a gold sheen. Mmm... not bad. In fact, it looks good!
Have you seen yourself from the back? Trousers might look a bit tight around the bum.
Ouch! It’s difficult turning around but, yes, it does look OK! This is it. I’m not changing again. Now, bag and shoes and I’m off. I can hear the taxi. He can take it or leave it.
Well… If you ask me, he’ll leave it. Oh, shut up!
