Getting ready for my friend Sam’s hen weekend in September 2019, I should’ve been excited. I was going to Tenerife and it was the first time I’d left my kids, Macey, then seven, and Opie, two, for more than one night. But looking in the mirror, I noticed my hair was thinning at the front. I’d suffered from alopecia when I was pregnant, but my hair had grown back. Now, it was happening again.

I slapped on a smile for the weekend, but I felt rubbish. My hair continued to fall out and, by October, I ‘braved the shave’.
