The mythological birthplace of Aphrodite, Cyprus is an enchanting destination all year round, with spring temperatures hitting a balmy 18-20C. This makes it a great time to visit if you want a more active holiday, while still being able to soak up the sun and swim in the sea. The people are welcoming and English is widely spoken in the resorts or restaurants.
Ancient Paphos
Paphos is the ideal base for exploring nature, hitting the beach or discovering archaeological sites, such as the UNESCO Tombs of the Kings. These vast underground tombs are carved out of solid rock, and are the burial places of Greek and Roman high-ranking officials and aristocracy.
Then there's Kato Paphos Archaeological Park, which stretches out along the coastline and is just a short stroll from the harbour. It contains fascinating mosaics illustrating ancient Greek tales, as well as a detailed depiction of legendary ill-fated lovers Pyramus and Thisbe.
Afterwards, stroll down to the harbour and check out the Ottoman castle, which has lovely views across Paphos and the coast.
