Can’t stick with keto?
Woman's World|July 10, 2023
“Hi, sweet girl. It’s Grandma,” said Cheri Hurst, cradling her first grandchild. As Cheri gazed at baby Sutton’s tiny face, the Texas homemaker felt a surge of love so intense, tears came to her eyes. She wiped them away, gently rocking the new born. A thought began to repeat in her head: I’m going to be here to see you grow up. Don’t you worry, Sutton. I’m going to be here. Cheri meant it with all her heart. And yet, with the way things had been going in her life, it didn’t seem likely…

Can’t stick with keto?

Cheri was in the midst of a few rough years. One after another, loved ones had been diagnosed with serious health problems. Her mom and best friend, both battling cancer, died just 27 days apart. As Cheri grieved, sadness had given way to worry. She’d learned that sugary, processed diets may have ‘fed’ their cancers, making them more deadly.

I still eat the same sugar and junk they did, Cheri thought, driving home with husband Todd. She shook her head. I’m 62 years old and nearly 100 pounds overweight. If I don’t get my eating under control now, it’ll be too late. But how? She’d gained on Weight Watchers, hated shakes, found keto and fasting too hard. If it weren’t for Sutton, she might give up.

Cheri lost 86 lbs!

As Cheri Hurst used the “lazy keto” trend, she had a lot of fun with it. “I didn’t buy grass-fed or organic anything. I went for things that were convenient, tasty and kept me losing,” says the Texas grandmother, now 63. Favorites included Slim Jims, ready-to-eat boiled eggs, Real Good brand frozen chicken enchiladas and frozen pork fried cauliflower “rice.” Her absolute go-to: Outer Aisle brand cauliflower sandwich thins. “Add cream cheese, lox and red onion. You’ll never miss bagels!” Cheri ate up—and went from an XXL to a tiny size 2!
