Such a pretty day, I wish I could go for a walk or at least open a window, Bobbie Carlton thought as summer sunshine filtered into her Lexington, Massachusetts, home. But allergies to pollen, mold and more made that impossible.
Since childhood, every allergy season, Bobbie would suffer with severe coughing, itchy eyes and a stuffy nose. Over-the-counter medicines helped tame many of her symptoms, but the tickle and dry cough still caused intense coughing fits that left her gasping for breath. This not only negatively impacted her on a personal level but in her job as well. As a marketing professional, Bobbie is a frequent public speaker, and her coughing spells would leave her embarrassed as she choked over her words.
Many days, Bobbie felt exhausted from all the coughing, but she was unable to sleep because coughing also kept her awake at night.
Then, while doing her weekly grocery shopping one day in 2022, Bobbie spotted a tea called Traditional Medicinals Organic Throat Coat Tea. The label said it contained slippery elm. Bobbie didn’t know what that was, but the tea cost just $5, and at this point she thought, Why not, I’ ll try anything.
