Dodge diabetes with an a.m. walk
Sure, it's smart to take a brisk walk for at least 30 minutes five times a week to reduce your risk of developing type 2 diabetes (T2D). But now, Harvard scientists say when you exercise can boost the benefit even further. Their new study found being active between 6 AM and noon lowers your chances the most, decreasing your risk by up to 38% compared to exercising in the afternoon and evening. Experts suspect the body is wired to make exercise more beneficial during the early part of the day because it helps lower glucose from food you eat.
OR DIM LIGHTS IN THE P.M.! Turning off extra lights 3 hours before bed lowers blood glucose and insulin resistance (reducing your risk of T2D) compared to pre-bed brightness, found a Northwestern University study. Your body uses an increase and decrease in light over the day as a cue to regulate processes that impact T2D.
