The October edition of GB&F looks at development planning in Ghana. You will know that since independence, Ghana implemented numerous development plans but many of them were abandoned, or delayed for financial reasons for political advantage. Ghanaian women in science are a handful because many of them are deterred from pursuing a career in science at the highest level. But some women have broken the glass ceiling and excelled in science in Ghana and internationally. The much-hyped Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) may not deliver the new world economy as the old system of wealth ownership and accumulation persists.
There was euphoria in Kumasi with the announcement of the redevelopment of markets in the metropolis. It was envisaged that the numerous problems associated with markets would come to an end for SMES to operate smoothly. Yet the market redevelopment has turned out to create more complex problems.
