Bu konuda

The Northeastern region of India has been considered a safe haven for foreigners since a long time. Owing to its demography, cultural and physical alikeness with certain migrants, it has been the home to various tribes or displaced people who occasionally migrate from the neighboring countries. At the backdrop of enacting the Citizenship Act, and its implications on the influx, the February issue highlights the refugee problems in Northeast India.

The issue contains an interview with Hannah Kern who is on a cycling spree from Vietnam to London. It also covers the story of an entrepreneur who is engaged in the production of biodegradable pen with a twist.

AMIDST CAA PROTESTS, BJP EYES CHAKMAS TO KEEP ITS HOLD IN MIZORAM

In a recent turn of events, villagers belonging to the Chakma community were forcibly evicted from Kamalabagan, a village situated near Demagiri (Tlabung) in Lunglei District of Mizoram on 11th December 2019 by officials of state machinery at the behest of non-state entities. Seeking the Governor’s intervention, various members from the community wrote a stringent letter to contain the injustice meted out to the Chakma minorities. The ethnic tension between the Mizo and Chakma communities has been a long one. Though, the stand-off between the two communities has emerged on the basis of indigeneity. The tussle is now taking a new colour with the politics of the Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019, CAA. Mumeninaz Zaman writes.

Iran-US In A Tug Of War

Tehran’s street was packed with mourners as a sea of people shouting slogans of ‘Death to America’, turned out to pay their respects to Qaseem Soleimani, the head of Iran’s elite Quds Force, who was killed in an air strike at Baghdad’s international airport on 3rd January 2020. Soleimani was assassinated in a US drone strike on the orders of US President Donald Trump. Meanwhile, the Middle Eastern country has raised the blood-red ‘flags of revenge’, vowing to retaliate the death of the General. Iran responded back to the killing of the General by launching missiles on 8th January at Iraqi bases used by the US military. The escalating tension between the two countries have heightened fears of a conflict with far-reaching implications.
