A late starter on the hunting field who is still in love with the game in his 80s
“Barry has always been a vital link between the hunt and the farming community,” joint-master and huntsman Richard Tyacke highlights as being one of Barry’s major contributions to the hunt, “because he is well-known and liked by most of the farmers in our country.”
Barry says: “I started in farming as cowman for Sir Edward Hanmer and 10 acres came with the job. I moved on to a 20-acre council holding and then to a larger 45-acre council farm. I tried to buy the farm next door, but the credit squeeze intervened, so I ended up finding someone else to share it with me.”
