100,000 people sign new petition
THE government is to debate another petition calling for change to firework laws, as campaigners refuse to give up the fight.
The FAB Firework Abatement UK group’s petition is to be debated on 29 January next year, after it was signed by 100,000 people in under five weeks.
The call, for changes including a ban on public use, follows an earlier petition set up by the group asking for restrictions on the dates fireworks can be sold. This was debated but the government said no change in the law was needed.
But horse owner Julie Doorne, of the campaign group, told H&H she believes attitudes are changing and the issue is gaining more attention, as shown by the speed at which people signed the most recent petition.
