THE act of a gentleman led to Odin’s arrival. In 2012, Eggesford huntsman Gary Boon needed a horse so turned to Nick Murphy of Wexford Horse Transport.
“He sent one over, but that one didn’t work out so I sent it back,” says Gary. “I was desperate, so Nick said, ‘I’ve let you down, but the only one I’ve got left is my own mare. You’ll have to have her.’”
By Nick’s showjumping warmblood Mr H and out of Irish Sport Horse Odin’s Surprise, Odin was, in Nick’s words, the “best horse I’ve ever ridden”.
That verdict seemed inaccurate on the first day when Gary’s wife, Joanne, rode her.
