Warning for owners after human medicine causes two positive drug tests
RIDERS and owners have been warned of the numerous causes of failed dope tests after a groom urinating in a stable and hay fever tablets caused positive results.
Trainer Dean Ivory appeared before the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) disciplinary panel on 3 August in relation to two horses who had tested positive for prohibited substances.
Links Drive Lady’s sample contained an anti-histamine, Wotadoll’s a metabolite of human painkiller tramadol.
The panel found the probable source of the former was one or both of two staff taking hay fever tablets. In the latter case, the probable source was groom Shane Cuddy, who had been prescribed tramadol, urinating in the stable.

Rider Denies Doping After Team Loses Olympic Placing - Tine Magnus and the Belgian team said they do not know the source of the drug that caused the positive test
Olympic eventer Tine Magnus has denied ever doping after her Paris ride Dia Van Het Lichterveld Z gave a positive test at the Games. This means the Belgian team, which came fourth, has been disqualified. On 4 September, the FEI said the 10-year-old mare, owned by Kris van Vaerenbergh, tested positive for trazodone, which is listed as an antidepressant on the FEI's prohibited substances list.
