James Scott

Using motions and sounds as his vice, Bronxnative James Scott plans on creating music that he can call his own.

 His project, Forest, has been in the works for two years. He describes this project as an experience, not only for him, but for the people who will be chiming in once it’s released.

We sat down with J to get an insight on his early life before music, his summer plans and get a feel of what influenced him. He got major cool points since he’s a huge #CudderFan.

A.R.T.S.Y : What’s your fondest musical memory in your house or your neighborhood?

James: When I was in 5th grade I performed at a Black History Month talent show, I did a J Brown performance. The audiences cheered for me and shouted, “Oh my God, this is great.” That’s when I thought to myself, “I want to do this for the rest of my life.”

A : Are you influenced by any old records? If so, what’re your top 3 influences? J : Micheal Jackson, Kid Cudi and Kanye. A : Give me three songs from them that influenced you.

J: Michael Jackson: “Black & White,” “They Don’t Care About Us.” Cudi: “Soundtrack To My Life,” “Solo Dolo,” “Man on The Moon” Kanye: “SpaceShips,” “Love Lock Down,” “Street Lights.”

A: Have you ever been in any music competitions? J: Yeah, but I didn’t succeed in any one of them. Its cool though, the losers always win. A: Do you prefer performing for a large crowd or small settings?

J: Large crowds, I like the energy and the feel of the people. I also want them to feel me and my music.
