Designed with water bodies and plenty of green areas, an IT campus in Indore seeks inspiration from the river Narmada that flows through Madhya Pradesh.
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a leading Indian Information Technology company, approached us in 2014 to design their new campus for IT and BPO facilities in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. The purpose of this campus, defined by then Chief Executive Officer and current Chairman of Tata Sons Mr. N Chandrasekaran, was to develop a knowledge hub in the fast-growing business ecosystem of Indore that would nurture young talent available in India and support inclusive growth. The initial brief included designing a state-of-the-art facility with a contemporary vocabulary that blends local culture and aesthetics. This campus is designed to provide job opportunities to 10,000 associates (7500 for IT and 2500 for BPO). As architects of this large campus, it was important to assimilate the two integral aspects of a greenfield project of this scale. Firstly, it involved site development that is conceptually relevant to the context of the place and functionally compliant for the company. It also entailed the design of built and unbuilt forms, home to several individuals, placing them in an environment that encourages creating potential for innovative intellectual and social exchange.
