MEGANE E-TECH HAS STYLING CUES OF AN SUV, PRACTICALITY OF A HATCH AND THE SPACE OF A VEHICLE FROM A SEGMENT ABOVE
The Alliance has been a leader in electric cars with Nissan leading the way with the Leaf hatch for over a decade and Renault putting the know-how to good use in commercial vehicles with the Kangoo, also nearly a decade back. It has since expanded its range to include the Zoe mini hatch as well as the Twizy, a personal mobility solution but has only now at Munich showcased the first of its cars to be built on a newly developed electric platform, the CMF-EV. That and the usage of an ultra slim battery pack has resulted in a vehicle that truly embodies the best of all worlds, with styling cues of an SUV, practicality of a hatch and the space of a vehicle from a segment above.
While the Megane in the Renault line-up has traditionally been a hatchback, the Megane E-Tech Electric is more of a crossover with a high profile, chunky and muscular appearance and a sporty sloping roof-line. It also features flush door handles that are electrically deployed and pop out on approach. Besides, it also has a new electric lighting signature that starts off with LEDs all around and includes DRLs in the front that cross over the logo and laser cut optical fibres at the rear that produce a 3D shimmering effect.
