A Stuttgart-based heavy-haulage firm Paule engaged a Mercedes-Benz Actros 4163 SLT heavy haulage tractor unit to transport an Airbus A 320 across Germany.
In what could be termed as a feat no less spectacular, a Mercedes-Benz Actros 4163 SLT heavy-haulage tractor unit hauled an Airbus A 320 across Germany. Drawing crowds wherever it passed, the SLT heavy-duty tractor unit engaged by Stuttgart-based heavy haulage firm Paule executed the task successfully. Powered by a 625 hp Mercedes-Benz OM 473 diesel engine that produces 3000
Nm of peak torque at 1100 rpm, the heavy-haulage tractor comes with a gross combination weight of 250-tonnes. Equipped with an adjustable fifth-wheel coupling and two heavy-duty couplings, the Actros tractor is laced with a 16-speed gearbox. Having a unique start-up and braking system, the Actros 4163 SLT heavy-duty tractor operated by night most of the time. Entrusted with the task of bringing the fuselage from Tallinn, Estonia, to Southern Germany after it was damaged during heavy landing, the truck took around 11 days. The journey began with the truck ferry taking a freight across the Baltic Sea to Lübeck’s docks. With the precious cargo measuring 60 m in length, weighing 90-tonnes and measuring five-meter in width, the Actros 4163 SLT heavy-haulage tractor unit completed the task without a single hiccup.
