It is exciting times for British bike maker Triumph riding on the back of seven straight years of growth globally and backing that intent with an even more diverse yet just as focused product portfolio across various spectrums of the bike market. Fast Bikes India caught up with Triumph’s Paul Stroud
Adil: The Speedmaster is gorgeous but do you think it could cannibalise the classic Bonneville as you sell it right now?
Paul: There might be a bit of that but the riding style of the Speedmaster is so different to the Bonneville. I mean fundamentally it is a laidback cruiser style motorcycle whereas the Bonneville in all fairness is a little bit more upright so the cannibalisation if it happens would be very minimal. I think the interesting comparison would be with the Thunderbird because they are both similar in style but with the Speedmaster being incredibly authentic.
Adil: So it’s a bike for the masses?
Paul: No it’s a bike for customers in India who basically appreciate the British premium lifestyle without question. We are not as yet selling to the masses in India.
Adil: Good you brought up India so early into discussion. Can you shed some more light on the agreement between you and Bajaj Auto?

John Surtees an Appreciation
The first time I saw John Surtees was at Montlhery where he had come to demonstrate his old 1959 World Championship winning MV Agusta 500 and 350 machines. This was sometime in the mid-1990s and while I couldn’t get to speak with him then, his smooth clean and effortless riding style on the bumpy banking and through the notorious infield made me marvel at his imperious style.
