Stu discovers the GSX-S1000F isn't designesd to run on diesel
I could blame it on middle age, I could blame it on being distracted with a hundred different thoughts about work but, whatever I blame it on, I still screwed up. I filled the GSX-S1000F with diesel. Yip, diesel. A whole £15 worth. Not realising this at the time, I fired the bike up and set off on my ride-out, but only got about 150 yards before it spluttered to a halt and I realised my error.
Stranded by the roadside wondering what to do, my girlfriend (all dressed up, but now with nowhere to go) wasn’t overly impressed with my idiocy and nor was I, truth be told. The last time I made such a fuel blunder was when I put four-star leaded petrol in a red diesel tractor when I was about 14. I wasn’t too popular that day either as the whole fuel system had to be bled.
HOW MUCH?
On this occasion, I was only a few miles from home so considered pushing the bike back and draining it at home myself. But it was uphill for much of the way so that idea was quickly discounted. Instead, I called the AA. I’ve been a member for more years than I can remember so was most disgruntled when I was told my membership didn’t cover this particular breakdown. This faux pas required the services of a supposedly ‘specialist’ fuel technician and there would be a significant charge for him (or her) to syphon the tank and safely dispose of the contaminated fuel.

Ducati Riding Experience
When I rode the Ducati DesertX to France last year, I did have a bit of an explore on some easy fire roads and gentle green lanes in the wilds of the Médoc area, but was left with the feeling that, had I the experience, the DesertX would have been capable of taking me along some more extreme trails to some even more exciting places. If only there was a way of finding out just how well the Italian adventure bike could cope with some more extreme terrain...

It's ironic that the first all-new MV Agusta model to hit the marketplace right after Italy's No.1 trophy brand was acquired by Austrian giant Pierer Mobility, owner of off-road titans KTM, should be the company's first dual-purpose model of the modern era, powered by MV's all-new 931cc three-cylinder engine that's destined to form the basis of a whole series of new models in coming months and years.
