REGULAR Torque readers may recall my column from a year ago, where I recounted how my rented all-wheel-drive Toyota Fielder station wagon had impressed me to no end as it conquered the blizzard-hit Hokkaido roads during my year-end family ski holiday back in 2016.
Last December, we were back in Hokkaido for more skiing. Part of our trip involved getting from Kushiro in eastern Hokkaido to Chitose, about 270km to the west – a perfectly driveable distance in normal circumstances, except that conditions in Hokkaido in December are usually anything but normal.
Wiser from our previous experience, we booked a short domestic flight instead.
