Fancy a new interior but don’t know where to start? We speak to Vanwurks to find out how to really make your van work for you
So you’ve worked hard, saved hard and finally bought a Campervan. The thing is, the interior isn’t really what you want. Well then, good news! The beauty of a VW Camper is that you can do as little or as much to one as you want, but no two are ever the same. A fresh pair of curtains and some bunting can transform a tired interior, but for those who want to go further, and create their own living space, it can be a much more daunting task. Fear not though, as we’ll take you through the thought process of creating a new interior with Vanwurks’ main man, Nick Gilligan.
What’s the first piece of advice you offer?
That depends on the person. If they’re entirely new to the Camper scene those people are different to someone who has owned VWs when they were younger. They tend to know more about what they want, and what they’ll get with an old VW. How it drives and so on. So, we’d say the most important question is what do you want to get out of your Bus? Is it really something you’re going to keep or is it just something you want to try out, but will maybe sell on in a year or so. That makes a difference, so you need to give some thought into if it’s a keeper. If it is, then that’s great, you can be as self-indulgent as you want and create something that’s entirely to your tastes and go as wild as you like, but if there’s even a small chance Camper ownership might not be for you in the long run, then it’s a good idea to have one eye on resale. In which case, Buses are like selling houses - you want saleable colours on the inside and the out. Simple is always better when you’re selling as you want something that will appeal to the majority rather than the minority.
