The Indian National Hockey Team is one of the giants of the sport. They have been one of the most dominant teams in the Olympics. India was the team to beat from 1928 until 1959. However, the slow decline from 1960 onwards till 2012 was evident, hitting the new low in 2012 when the Indian Hockey Team finished 12th in the Olympics. This sudden slump motivated them to overcome their fears and ended up as runners-up in the Asian Champions Trophy the same year. India hit a rough patch again in 2013 finishing 5th in the 2013 Asians Champions Trophy but in the 2014 Asian Games, India defeated Pakistan, their bitter rivals to bag Gold. They went on to win the 2016 Asian Champions Trophy and 2017 Asia Cup followed by winning the 2018 Asian Champions Trophy and collecting Gold at 2018-19 Men’s Hockey Series. India also won Bronze at 2020 Tokyo Olympics after defeating Germany, a historic win as India bagged a medal at the Olympics in almost 41 years.
