Romanian fashion designer DINU BODICIU on the unusual reason he doesn’t like to queue and the time he loaned an outfit to Lady Gaga, who returned it without dry-cleaning.
The Moneymaker:
Dinu Bodiciu, 38, the designer behind the hats donned by the Avox characters in The Hunger Games trilogy and an outfit that Lady Gaga hand picked to wear. Born in Romania, he moved from London, where he was based, to Singapore three years ago, and is currently a fashion design lecturer at Lasalle College of the Arts. Dinu, whose eponymous line of luxury baseball caps is stocked in Japan and Hongkong, recently conceptualised Shadowear, a fashion, music and dance performance for the National Museum of Singapore’s new permanent programme, Singapore and the World.
HIS HOME: A rented apartment in Chai Chee which he shares with flatmates and his partner (“she moved to Singapore first for work at the NTU Centre for Contemporary Art and later I moved here too”).
HIS RIDE: The bus or MRT.
WHAT’S IN HIS WALLET: In his wallet from UK label Ruuger (“It was designed by one of my former students”) Dinu keeps a minimal stash of credit cards, some Romanian and UK currency (“I had S$40 but I just spent it”) and a VIP membership card from craft store Spotlight as he often buys supplies there for classes.
